Nepal Day 7… EBC Day 1…

Arrived in Phakdin – elev 2800m… This is where the trek starts…

imageFrom Lukla, it was a nice trek… it was about a few hours… It’s the easiest section of the whole trek…

The nights are so cold… I’m finding electricity scarce in this country…

… Last night in Kathmandu, I went to bed with my block heater on full… I woke up in the middle of the night shivering – turns out electricity turns off regularly due to the demand on the grid…

imageTomorrow will be the most difficult trek – It will take 7-8 hours to get to Namche Bazaar 3450, rising 850m..

… This morning landed in Lukla – I got a nice video of the landing through the cockpit… But I’m unable to upload due to satellite wifi… Will upload when I get a good connection 🙂

imageThe airport is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world… It has only one runway… It’s extremely short and it’s for takeoff and landing… The runway rises as the plane lands, to slow it down in the short distance…

The Lukla airport is hidden in a valley, surrounded by mountains… And there’s always fog in the valley…

imageAll flights to Lukla never leave on time… Last Oct no flights operated for 2 weeks… During the high season (sep-oct) there are 55 flights every day… But due to the fuel crisis, earthquake and the low winter season, now there are only 5…

The location of the airport, it’s short runway, along with the fog makes it so dangerous – but it was a fun ride 🙂

… Not too many ppl are trekking at this moment… More ‘peace and quiet’ for me 🙂
