Turkey Day 1… Landed in Istanbul

Istanbul has been the capital of 4 empires in the last 1600 years…

imageIt’s where East meets West, where Christianity meets Islam…

Around 300AD, when the Roman Empire split in two, Constantine moved the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire to Byzantium (current day Istanbul)…

The Roman Empire held Istanbul against Islam until 1453, when it finally fell…

Some scholars believe that if Istanbul fell sooner, we would not have seen the Renaissance period on Europe…

… But who is to know for sure

It was the Ottomans who ruled Istanbul until World War 1…

The strategic location has been vital for Istanbul’s prominence in world history… In World War 1, important battles were fought along the Bhosphorus when in 1923 the Republic of Turkey was formed…

  1. Hi Sabi, nice to meet you. We’re headed to turkey in about a month. Very excited.
Thanks so much for following our blog. I hope you enjoy the stories of our journey. And don’t be a stranger – come on over and join the conversation.
    Cheers, and happy travels

    • Hi Alison thank you! Istanbul was one of my favourite destinations. 🙂 it has a charm of its own.

It is nice to meet you too. I’m new to WordPress, I will become more active once I get used to it.

As a matter of fact it was a conversation with Don I had in the Amazon last year that inspired me to also start a travel blog.

Not sure if you remember me, I was at the lodge as well when our paths crossed at the Tahuayo Lodge in the Peruvian Amazon (quickly as it was, but not now with the power of the Internet)

Say hi to Don (I remember a discussion we had regarding Ekhart Tolle 🙂

Enjoy your travels and keeping posting 🙂

      • Don wishes he could find a picture of you on your blog so he could see your face. He certainly remembers the conversation. That’s amazing that you’ve met him! Happy blogging! After a while you get better at it with practice.

      • Hi 🙂 still trying to use this theme.

I managed to put a picture up on my ‘contacts’ page. This was me as I was leaving the lodge to go to Iquitos before I went home.

This was the last opportunity I had to jump in, so I seized the moment. 🙂
